PJSC Kherson Shipyard lays keel of first product tanker for SVL
On 21 October at the slip of PJSC Kherson shipyard keel laying of the first product tanker of a series, project RST27, for SVL group of companies, Malta, took place. The ship design has been developed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (Odessa). Tanker is designed for mixed (river-sea) carriage of bulk crude oil and petroleum products, including benzene, without limitation as for flash point, ensuring transportation of cargo maintaining temperature 60°С. It is provided to transport two grades of cargo simultaneously.
The ship’s overall length is 140,85m, beam – 16,86m, depth – 6m. Deadweight in the river with draft 3,6m is 5378t, with draft 4,2m deadweight in the sea water is 6980t
In the celebration participated Mr. N.M.Kostyak, Head of Kherson Region Administration, Mr. V.G.Pelych, Regional Council Chairman, Mr. V.V. Saldo, Mayor of Kherson city, Mr. V.V.Fedin, PJSC Kherson shipyard Director General.
The vessel meets the requirements of all International Conventions and Environmental Safety.

Port of Kherson sees a twofold traffic volume growth in August

Cargo traffic at Kherson Commercial Seaport in August 2011 soared by as much as 2.1 times from the same period in 2010, to 323,800 tons. The state-owned company also reported its throughput rose by 17 percent versus planned volume, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine said.

The cargo volume surge was driven mainly by handling of ammonium sulfate cargo, unitized cargo, scrap metals and new cargoes - coal, coke, and flour, the Ministry statistics said.

Kherson port’s cargo throughput in Jan-Aug increased only by 6,400 tons versus last year’s figures, to 1,480,400 tons.

Kherson Commercial Seaport was founded back in 1778. Today, the company operates 10 berths and 13 cargo yards and 2 rail yards. Port of Kherson is able to handle five million tons of cargo a year. More than 40% of the cargoes passing through the port’s terminals are mineral fertilizers and bulk chemicals, and another 40% is cereals. Kherson Commercial Seaport also handles ferrous metals, timber, and peat.

Oil spill in Kherson harbor

Oil slick covering 4000 sqm was detected in the waters of the port of Kherson, on the Koshevaya river, the regional Emergencies agency said Tuesday.

“A slick of 40 to 1000 meters (according provisional data, covering up to one third of the visible harbor area) was discovered on August 16th,” the emergencies office of the regional administration said, Korrespondent.net reported.

A team of the city and regional emergency department and the State Ecological Inspection has moved to the scene.

There are no other details on the oil spill incident available.

Kherson sea port, founded in 1778, is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, 15 km from its mouth. The projected annual capacity of the port is 5 million tons of different cargoes. The port operates 17 gantry cranes, 6 floating cranes and 135 units of other handling equipment.

Kherson port eyes construction of new cargo terminals

There are plans to build in Kherson Commercial Sea Port on the Dnieper river left bank new terminals for cargo handling, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine said.

The port expansion project will be implemented under the General scheme of the Kherson sea port development until 2015. The expansion will allow the port to boost cargo throughput up to 8 million tons a year, create 347 new jobs and double the payments to the budgets of all levels, the Ministry said.

Port of Kherson was founded in 1778. The port has 10 berths and 13 loading platforms and 2 railway platforms. Kherson sea port is engaged in transshipment of cargo at outer anchorage and in handling coastal cargoes.
