USC buys 79.33 percent of the Vyborg shipbuilding plant
Russia's state-run United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) bought 79.33 percent of the Vyborg shipbuilding plant in country's north-west for 1.8 billion rubles ($61.8 million) having consolidated almost all large vessel production assets in Russia, Kommersant business daily newspaper reported on Monday.

The deal will allow USC to produce sea ice-breakers at the newly-purchased plant, using about 100 hectares of land on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. USC expects to get orders from Russia's large energy companies, such as the country's gas giant Gazprom, to keep the plant running at full capacity.

USC also signed eight billion ruble ($274.6 million) contracts with the shipyard to make two diesel-powered sea ice-breakers with 16 MW capacities each by 2015, the paper said.

USC buys a controlling stake in Vyborg Shipyard

United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Vyborg Shipyard (VSZ), USC said Thursday.


United Shipbuilding Corporation was founded in 2007 as a 100-percent state-owned group of companies consolidating about 70% of domestic shipbuilding industry. UCS currently incorporates three regional shipbuilding centers, nine engineering and design offices and 39 dockyards. The Corp’s largest shipbuilding assets include Kaliningrad-based JSC Yantar Shipyard, JSC Admiralty Shipyards (St. Petersburg), JSC PA Sevmash (Severodvinsk), JSC DVZ Zvezda (Vladivostok). Besides, UCS holds a 50% stake in Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, a joint venture with STX Finland Cruise Oy.


USC posted for the 2011 period revenue of more than RUB 160 billion, net income of RUB 1 billion and portfolio of orders – 1 trillion rubles. The Corp. focuses primarily on the Russian market, but also exports its products to 20 countries.



Vyborg Shipyard (OJSC Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant) is a largest shipbuilding firm in Russia’s North-West region dedicated to building drilling rigs for offshore deposits development and vessels of small and medium tonnage.

Vyborg Shipyard completes 2 drilling rigs for Gazprom
A group of Gazprom experts visited on August 15, 2011 Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant. The group was headed by Alexander Ananenkov, Deputy Chairman of the Company's Management Committee, Gazprom press release said.

Alexander Ananenkov discussed current issues of cooperation with the Plant management. Above all, the meeting addressed the transfer of Polyarnaya Zvezda and Severnoye Siyaniye semi-submersible drilling rigs (SSDR) to Gazprom. For today, construction and acceptance testing of both drilling platforms have been completed.

Gazprom applies to the maximum the capacities of domestic shipbuilding plants in implementing the projects for the development of the Russian continental shelf. One of the examples of large-scale cooperation of our company and domestic shipbuilders is construction by the Vyborg Plant of two SSDRs to be involved in the development of the Russian shelf, in particular, the Shtokman field.

“Placement of Gazprom's two large orders gives a strong impetus to the Russian shipbuilding industry development, helps our Company streamline the costs associated with the offshore fields development,” stated Alexander Ananenkov.

Vyborg Shipyard starts building ice-class PSVs for SCF Group

Vyborg Shipyard Construction has commenced steel cutting for a new ice-class supply vessel, the first in a series of multipurpose PSVs ordered by Sovkomflot (SCF Group), the PortNews correspondent reports from the ceremony.

The vessel will reportedly be named Vitus Bering. The lead ship delivery is scheduled for late 2012 - early 2013, the second vessel – for 2013.

In Dec, 2010 SCF Group and EXXON Neftegas Ltd (an operator of the project "Sakhalin-1&quot inked a time-charter agreement. The shipbuilding contracts were signed by SCF and Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Oy (a JV of United Shipbuilding Corporation and STX Finland). Vyborg Shipyard performs subcontract for the construction of most blocks for new ships.

The ice-class vessels are intended for year-round maintenance of the offshore oil platform at Arkutun-Dagi deposit ("Sakhalin-1&quot.

The PSVs hulls are designed for operation in ice conditions (up to 1,7m ice thickness) and forward stern movement. The vessels will have dynamic positioning system installed onboard and main diesel-electric engines' rated power of 18 MW. Ship’s DWT - 3950 tons, LOA - 99 m.

Rosmorport has developed a project for reconstruction of federal assets based at the port of Vyborg, the head of Rosmorport’s regional department told a St. Petersburg conference.

Sergey Pylin, director of North-West branch of Rosmorport, who was speaking at the Russian forum "Current State and Prospects for Development of Russian Bunker Services Market" in St. Petersburg, said some berths at the port had been built over 150 years ago. About 50% of waterfront has been in poor condition. The Rosmorport’s plan provides for reconstruction of berths number 2-5 and number 11-13, dredging of harbor and approach channel reconstruction. Currently, the project is undergoing the examination, he said.

The renovation project includes restoration of 750 rm of waterfront, deepening the harborage to the mark of 7.5 m. The port’s facilities reconstruction is expected to boost cargo throughput by 2.6 times to 3 million tons a year. Mr. Pylin said the Port of Vyborg will focus on handling containers, general and Ro-Ro cargo, while coal and other environmentally unfriendly cargoes will be shifted to the port of Ust-Luga and Vysotsk (Leningrad region).

Besides, the project includes development of passenger traffic and yacht tourism.

Port of Vyborg is a freezing port but is open for navigation year-round. The Port encompasses 16.2 ha and features 13 berths (waterfront -1480 rm) along the coastline of the Gulf of Vyborg. Throughput of the port in 2010 was 1,1 million tons.

3 августа 2010г. определением Арбитражного суда Санкт-Петербурга и Ленинградской области прекращено производство по делу о банкротстве ООО «Порт Выборгский», сообщил SeaNews президент Группы OMG Виталий Архангельский. Копия решения суда, сказал он, должна быть получена в течение 10 дней.
«Таким образом, мы надеемся, будет положен конец провокациям со стороны «Банка Санкт-Петербург», предпринявшего против нас рейдерскую атаку», – отметил В.Архангельский.
Порт Выборгский, подчеркнул он, сейчас активно развивается. «Статистика полугодия показывает, что нам удалось переориентироваться с пылящих грузов, таких как уголь, на более экологически чистые, в частности, на чугун и проектные грузы. Порт эффективно использует те возможности, которые возникают благодаря близости Сайменского канала и реализации проекта Nord Stream. «Северный поток» – это многолетний проект, который дает нам хорошие объемы проектных грузов».
Развитие перегрузочных мощностей в порту финансируется банком «Возрождение», сообщил В.Архангельский.
Финансовые претензии ФГУП «Росморпорт», возникшие в связи с переоценкой стоимости аренды причалов, проведенной «Росморпортом», по словам В.Архангельского, порт удовлетворил в полном объеме.
