BLACKSEAFOR ships arrive in Sevastopol
Ships of Black Sea Naval Cooperation Task Group (BLACKSEAFOR) on Apr 13 arrived in Sevastopol, Rusnavy reports.

Leaving Romanian Constanta, crew of the BLACKSEAFOR flagship – Russia's Black Sea Fleet (BSF) large landing ship Caesar Kunikov – paid military honors to destroyer leader Moskva perished off Romania in 1941 during the Great Patriotic War. Traditional wreath was laid on the water.

After that, the BLACKSEAFOR ships entered upon training tasks at sea. In the central part of the Black Sea, they held drills in commercial shipping control, air and sea surface situation monitoring, repelling attacks of ships and a small-size fast-speed target, nuclear/biological/chemical protection drills. Participants assisted and towed a "distressed" ship, practiced underway transshipment and joint maneuvering in formation.

The task group left Sevastopol on Apr 16.

Port of Sevastopol sees largest vessel ever

On November 21st, the largest ever Panamax bulk carrier Panama-flagged Global Star made call at the port of Sevastopol. The vessel was piloted into the harbor by state-owned company Delta Lotsman, the company said.


The bulker's length - 229 m, breadth - 32.24 m, depth - 20.20 m, deadweight - 83 601 tons, build year - 2010.


"The pilotage and mooring of the vessel has been accomplished just perfect, on schedule in spite of the night time, narrow waters of Sevastopol port and the presence of other ships," said Deputy Director of Delta-Lotsman Yuri Kharkov.


The State Enterprise Delta Lotsman (Delta Pilot) was established by the order of the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine in1998. Two years later the pilot company was certified by Shipping Register of Ukraine. Delta Lotsman operates a fleet of 20 pilot boats, 2 sounding boats and ice-class tug ‘Gaydamaka.’

Sevastopol port expects 25 ships this July
SE Sevastopol Sea Trade Port plans to handle in July 25 ships: 13 rive-sea going motor vessels and 12 cruise liners, the Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Communications said. The first liner, the 181-m-long Nautica will dock at the passenger port on July 5.

This month, the port will handle six vessels of with overall length exceeding 100 meters, including the 217-m-long Seven Seas Mariner. The cruise ship’s arrival in Sevastopol is expected early morning of July 12.

The state-owned Sevastopol Sea Trade Port handles passenger and cargo ships, provides towing, stevedoring, warehousing and freight-forwarding services.

Russia, Ukraine launch joint naval drills in Sevastopol
“Fairway of Peace-2011” military drills of Black Sea Fleet (BSF) and the Naval Forces of Ukraine started in Sevastopol on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry press office said. During the exercises the two countries’ naval forces will work out joint actions in peacekeeping operations in crisis areas.

According to the BSF Commander, Vice Admiral Vladimir Korolev, the "Fairway of Peace-2011" naval drill “is conducted not only to test the skills and professionalism of seafarers, but also to improve the interaction of our friendly navies and to demonstrate our joint commitment to peace and stability in the region”.

The naval drills involve 9 battleships, 8 boats and auxiliary vessels, 8 aircrafts, 3 helicopters, 260 marines of Ukraine's Navy and the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Throughput of Ukraine’s ports in Q1, 2011 up 2.4% to 27,294,000 tons

Freight volume handled at 18 ports of Ukraine in January-March 2011increased by 2.4% compared with the same period of 2010, to 27,294,000 tons, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure said.

In the reporting period transshipment of transit cargoes at the country’s seaports totaled 10,119,000 tons (+22.5%).

According to the first quarter results the leaders are Berdyansk port (growth as much as 2.2 times), Port of Sevastopol - (a 52.7-percent gain), Port of Nikolaev (+19.4%). The leading ports in handling transit cargoes: the same Port of Berdyansk (a fivefold surge), Port of Kerch (+128.2%), Yuzhny Port (+41%).

The Ukrainian ports specialize in handling primarily ore, grain, metals, coal, crude oil, petroleum products and containers.
