Murmansk Shipping posts first-quarter loss of RUB 4,130,000

Net loss of Murmansk Shipping Company (MMP) in the first quarter of 2012 amounted to 4,130,000 rubles versus profit of 6.61 million rubles year earlier, the Company said.

The Company's revenue for the period fell 10.6% to RUB 1.1 billion.

OJSC Murmansk Shipping Company (MMP, MSCo) specializes in maritime transport of general cargo and passengers by its own fleet, a fleet of its subsidiaries and chartered vessels. The holding’s own fleet comprises more than 300 vessels with total deadweight of about 2 million tons. The Company’s main shareholders are LLC Arctic Technology (62.7%) and the Russian Government (25.5%).

Murmansk transport companies traffic down 10 percent in Q1, 2012

Transport enterprises of the Murmansk region in the first quarter of 2012 saw a 10-percent drop in freight traffic from a year earlier, according to the Murmansk region Ministry of Economic Development.


In the reporting period three-month rail traffic was down 2.4% from the same period of 2011, seaborne cargo shipments slumped by twofold, trucking companies reported a 14-percent decline.

Rosnefteflot Board taps news CEO
The Supervisory Board of JSC Rosnefteflot appointed Oleg Tereshchenko as CEO of Rosneftflot, the company said on Friday. Tereshchenko replaces Andrei Aprelenko who resigned yesterday.

Before Oleg Tereshchenko joined Rosneftflot as a manager of transportation, handling and customs clearance he had worked for Rosneftetrans. Since 2008 Tereshchenko has been Deputy Manager of the Department of Logistics and Transport.

Rosnefteflot has been active in organizing the construction of new vessels, both for Rosneft and for other companies. For 14 years, under the supervision of Rosnefteflot the Russian and foreign shipyards have built 25 vessels for various purposes.

At present Rosnefteflot operates 27 vessels of various classes. In 2011, the company has successfully implemented projects for new bunkering tankers in the ports of Murmansk and Tuapse.

Rosnefteflot has become one of the largest companies in Russia, providing towing services, with branches network in Murmansk, Nakhodka, St. Petersburg, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Tuapse and Ust-Luga.

Russia’s ruling party taps three nominees for Murmansk Region Gov office

The "United Russia" Party will propose to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev three candidates to the post of the Governor of the Murmansk Region, the party’s press service said quoting Boris Gryzlov, chairman of the United Party’s Supreme Council.


The nominees are as follows: Deputy Governor of the Murmansk region Pavel Bogushevich, Acting Governor of the Murmansk region Marina Kovtun, General Director of OJSC Murmansk Marine Fishing Port Vladimir Sokolov.

Murmansk Fishing Port throughput down 15 percent in Jan-Mar

Cargo traffic at JSC Murmansk Marine Fishing Port (MMFP) in January-March 2012 decreased by 15 percent from the same period of 2011, to 88,600 tons. The Port Authority statistics said. Fish product volumes for the period shrank by 20%.


In March, the port handled 42,500 tons of cargo, including 35,000 tons of fish.


Murmansk Marine Fishing Port specializes in handling cargo from fishing boats, mother ships and reefer vessels. The enterprise is 100% owned by Russian government through the Federal Agency for Federal Property Management and Russia’s Federal Property Fund. In 2011, MMFP handled 276,300 tons of cargo.

SUEK gains majority stake in Murmansk Commercial Seaport

Coal company "SUEK" has completed the acquisition of a $260-m majority stake in OJSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport (MCS), an informed source told PortNews.


"The money has been transferred to the seller’s account, the deal is closed", the source said.
According to him the companies, controlled by Nikolai Yegorov and Soslan Harebov have completely pulled out of the MCS ownership.



The remaining shares are currently owned by the Russian Government (25.49%) and a few minority stockholders.


Earlier in the day MCS has unveiled the information on pulling out of two major stockholders who held 47.65% of common stock. Laterium Commercial Limited previously owned 12.68% in the stevedore company, Specialized Project Investment B.V, held a 34.97% stake in MCS. The companies reduced its share to 0% by the alienation of securities. The corresponding entry has been made to the stockholders’ account on February 13, 2012.


JSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport, founded in 1994, ranks forth largest Russian port by volume of handled cargo. The company operates 17 berths with total length of about 3 km. The port is able to accommodate vessels with draft of 15.5 meters and length of more than 265 meters. MCS net income (under RAS) for the first half of 2011 shrank by 30.2% to RUB 138,534,000, revenues - fell 3.7% to RUB 1,403,254,000. In 2011 cargo throughput of MCS was 14,420,033 tons.



Previously, the Russian government published at the end of March 2011 a list of state-run entities included in the privatization plan for 2011-2013. Overall, in the next two years Russia is set to sell 20% of shares in PJSC NCSP, 25.49% shares of JSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport (MCS), a 100-percent state-owned stake of the largest Russian rail carrier of liquefied natural gas JSC LNG-Trans, 25% of shares in Moscow River Shipping Company and a 55% stake in Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port Vanino).
