At more than 7.5 million sq. metres Rostock is one of the largest ports in the Baltic Sea region. It is superbly situated in terms of transport geography, easily reached nautically and has direct access to a modern rail and road network. A speedy pre- and onward carriage us thus always assured. Rostock sea port conforms to the latest requirements of the import and export trade.
Rostock is the only deep-water port on the German Baltic Sea coast that is able to handle ships up to 100,000 tdw carrying capacity.
Rostock overseas port is an all-round port:
Along 9000 m of quays it has 46 berths, of which more than half are special berths for RoRo and containers, liquid goods, dry bulk, chemicals and ferries.
All cargo types, such as liquid, grab, suction and general cargo, can be handled. SHRU can also provide special treatment of goods on the highest level during transportation, storage and handling. Apart from the handling of crude oil, naphtha, rapeseed oil, bioethanol, biodiesel and petrol products, handling at the port focuses on grain and fertilizer, coal, ore and building materials, sugar, timber, steel and scrap as well as on ferry and RoRo traffic.
Just outside the port is a shunting station with about 180 kms of rails. In addition to that there are another 65 kms of rails on the port territory, providing direct access to the handling sites and facilities. Pipelines directly connect the oil port with refineries in Böhlen, Leuna and Schwedt.
