The new and modern anchor handling and tugboat Kolga from Heerema Marine Contractors was baptized at the Maritime Station of Vigo (SP) and is the brother of Bylgia who was also baptized in the port of Vigo.
Both Kolga and Bylgia were designed and built by Astilleros Armon Vigo, S.A. to replace the old HMC, Husky and Retriever tugboats, which have been in service for more than 30 years. Both new tugs are equipped with a retractable bow thruster and have DP2 capabilities. With a length of 72 meters and a width of 18 meters, the fully customized tugs are larger than those of Husky and Retriever.
Each tugboat has a bollard shot of 202 tons and can hold up to 2500 m3 of fuel, enough to sail directly from Rotterdam to Cape Town, South Africa. The capacity of the anchor winch can install anchors in depths of water of up to 1500 meters. Each tug has accommodation for 40 people.
